Third Annual Dagos at Dusty’s on Groundhog Day Meetup! photo by djsime

It is that time of year again, to make a hastily arranged Tumblr meetup at Dusty’s Bar in northeast Minneapolis.

In past years, about a dozen or so people have shown up each time, and it has been a blast. So, now that leaves the details…

What time is it at?
Some people may be there by six to secure some tables, but let’s just say it “officially” starts at 7:00pm.

Do I need to be 21 to get into Dusty’s?
No. You must be 21 to drink of course.

How will I know who the Tumblr people are at Dusty’s when I walk in?
Excellent question. If you walk in by yourself or with a friend, and look lost while scanning the (small) bar, somebody is sure to slur “Hey, you do the Tumblr thing?”. Just smile and stick out your hand to introduce yourself.

What if I have questions about the event, who would I ask?

Next Local Tumblr Meetup?

I’ve been chatting with some cats on Twitter tonight about meeting up at Pat’s Tap, the new Kim Bartmann (of Bryant Lake Bowl and Barbette fame) gastropub venture. Not only because it’s in the neighborhood, but it’s replacing an old crusty bar that deserves our support. And it has Skee Ball!

I’m wondering if this would be a good spot to have another meetup, or any other ideas? Let me know what you think. Nordeast and the CC tend to get old after a while…not that I’m a bigot.

Thursday, May 5th at the CC Club!!

Hey guys, Thomas Lowry’s Ghost has gone ahead and set up a Tumblr meet-n-greet event!

I am pleased to announce that the next Minneapolis Tumblr meet-up will be at the CC Club (2600 Lyndale) on Thursday May 5th.

I don’t think it’s necessary to have Tumblr swag or anything like that (if someone wants to bring some, however, that’s cool). I’d figure since the CC has such a kick-ass jukebox, karaoke doesn’t really have to be to be in the mix. We can rock out to “Master Of Puppets” or “Okie From Muskogee” or “Regulate” and still hear how awful all of our voices are.

There’s a parking lot just south of the bar for those of you that are driving, so you won’t have to deal with meters or all that commuter jazz. They serve food all night, and I’ll try and get there early enough to procure the area near the pool table, which has a lot of seating.

And if it sucks, guess what? The Bulldog is right across the street! Hope y’all can come out. If anyone has any serious objections to the time and place, please let me know.

BTW: I was informed that I neglected to establish a time. I’m thinking about 6 or 7. Either way, I’ll be sh*t-faced by the time you get there. (not really)

One week from today, March 3, PRI is hosting its first ever Tumblr meetup. We’re gathering downstairs from our offices at Pizza Luce downtown. They’ve got a pretty darn good happy hour ($3 taps, rails & house wine). So c’mon by!

I want to personally thank everyone who came out to the Minneapolis Tumblr meetup at Dusty’s last night. It was a wonderful evening of beer, fellowship, and more beer. In all seriousness, getting together and meeting you fine people meant a lot to me, and I can’t wait to do it again.

Tumblr Meetup at Dusty’s

I tried the Dago with egg & cheese and a side of potato salad. Tasty, tasty stuff. And the Tumblr tweeps - so awesome. 2/2/11

That tater salad was delicious.  And yes, everyone was awesome!  

Stay tuned for the next meetup, tentatively mid-April in NE at somewhere with a patio.

Let’s answer some FAQS….

Where is Dusty’s?
It is one block north of Broadway on Marshall St NE, kitty-corner from the old Grain Belt Brewery

Where can I park?
Plenty of parking in the lot next to Dusty’s

Do I need to be 21 to go?
No. To the best of my knowledge all are welcome in Dusty’s, but of course you should be 21 to drink.

Is this an official Tumblr gathering? Like will we get key chains, refrigerator magnets, and 8x10 autograph photos of David Karp?
No.

Then what the hell is this?
This started out as myself and Tom Flynn meeting for a beer and a Dago. I told a couple other people about meeting us, and the next thing I know I’m typing this out on a Saturday night telling you guys about it.

If everyone who said they were coming showed up, would Dusty’s be big enough for this turnout?
Oh God no. The Minneapolis Fire Inspector would shut the place down fast. Last year about a dozen people showed up, and if things get too cramped we can go down the road to Psycho Suzi’s.

I don’t know, what if I’m socially awkward or the stalky-stabby type? Can I still come?
To my socially awkward brothers and sisters, you will be welcomed with open arms. This is the grand meeting of our tribe. You stalky-stabby types will be talked about in hushed tones in the corner and unfollowed the next day.
